A Successful Fund-raising Boost

One of the stalls at a local village event; The Newborough Well Dressing , Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire caught the eye of many visitors in May, offering the new game of Crown Darts!

Organiser Robin Waite reported, "We were delighted to have something different for people to try this year." The stall, sponsored by Crown Darts UK LTD, was run by members of the committee and raised £101.00 in less than four hours.

"Colleagues who ran the stall were kept very busy, since everyone seemed to want to have a go!" He added, "People were paying for multiple goes and holding their own private competitions. It was the grown-ups who were the main culprits for hogging the game!"

The fund-raising arrangement was a competition, where visitors could buy four darts for 50p, to score into a three - ringed target. Points were scored to match the size of the target rings, i.e. the outer ring scored one point, the middle scored three and the bulls-eye at five points. The highest score of the day, using four darts, would receive the prize. The amount of goes anyone could play, was unlimited, but a score could only comprise from the four darts thrown at any one time.

There were two competitions running simultaneously; Under 12's and adult.

A spokesman from Crown Darts UK LTD said, " Our Darts have been purchased by many people, primarily for fund-raising activities, whether for a club, a church fete or charity organisation." He added, "We are welcoming any letters or e-mails from organisations similar to the Newborough Village Well Dressing Committee, who wish to report their own successful fund-raising experiences using our darts. Crown Darts UK will publish this information as testimonials on their website."

Crown Darts UK LTD attended many fund-raiser events during 2001, and during the period of time that the darts were being developed. Organisations such as The Macmillan Cancer Trust, various Lions Clubs throughout the country, Aberystwyth Round Table, are to name but a few.
